Very recently my school friend Jennifer has adopted a one year old Chihuahua mix which was rescued a few months ago. In general the puppy was very sweet, but it used to have some behavior problems. It did not like some men and some dogs. It seemed to be OK with smaller dogs but usually it disliked the dogs which seemed to be bigger than it. It started growling and barking; it jumped up and pulled whenever it saw a dog or man it disliked. The dog was not aggressive at all, it didn’t bite but the canine was not properly socialized.
Alex, Jennifer’s husband had attended dog obedience training in the past, so they knew the basic things about dog training at least. So they tried to train the pet at home on other things. They had her on a harness when they noticed this behavior problem. Then they switched her to a pinch collar; they gave her a little tug and say a big “NO” whenever the dog barked, but this hadn’t helped to stop its barking habit. Actually they had never trained a dog with these problems.
