A dog is very similar to a television remote that needs to be programmed to work with a tv. To house train your dog, you should make sure that your dog follows a regular feeding and elimination schedule. This allows you to know when your dog has to go and take him outside to do his business before your carpet gets ruined. Following a schedule will also help your dog learn how to “hold it” until his next potty break.
Your home is your domain. Your dog must see the environment they live in as your territory. Stepping around a lying dog or not moving the animal from a place you intend to use gives him the right of way. This should not be allowed. Dominance in the pack means exercising your power in a non-confrontational way but with firm resolve that this is your territory.
When training your dog, do not ever neglect good behavior. Regardless of the situation, if your dog performs according to your expectations it should be rewarded. Even if your pet’s overall behavior is unsatisfactory, you should praise and reward it whenever it does what you want it to. Unambiguous rewards are the best way to encourage the behavior you want.
To prevent any mess in your house, you can install a doggy toilet. Once your dog knows that it has to go outside the house, use the same command you used to make it understand that outside is a good place to go in association with the doggy toilet.
When you first bring your puppy home, those first few days are the most important. You should be patient, consistent, and persistent form day one with your new puppy. Be sure not to let your puppy get away with behaviors you are not going to allow and positively reinforce the behaviors you are wanting to see.
If your dog is digging up your yard, they may be bored. The biggest cause of destructive behavior in dogs is boredom. Simply putting them out in a back yard does not necessarily mean they are getting exercise. Try making sure they have some activity by taking them for long walks, or if you must stay home, a long game of fetch. Your dog will be too tired out to bother digging.
Pay attention to your tone when you are disciplining your dog. Dogs tend to be well in tune with how their trainers are feeling. An appropriately stern tone can reinforce discipline. However, if you let your frustration show when your dog takes a long time to get a command right, you may undermine the praise you’re giving. Excessive anger can decrease your dog’s trust in you.
Once a person has figured out how to bring out the dogs abilities to learn and be trained it is simply a matter of practicing those techniques. The dog will enjoy pleasing the owner as much as the owner enjoys seeing the dog responding to the training they are administering.
